I figured since I have Greek in the title of the blog, I should at least put one recipe. I got this recipe from my grandmother's cookbook. She was old world Greek and came over from the country many many years ago.
6 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup sifted flour
2 heaping tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1 lb walnuts chopped fine
Sift together, flour, baking powder, salt and spices. Whip egg whites until stiff and add sugar gradually continuing beating, then add egg yolks. Fold in sifted ingredients and nuts and mix well.
Bake in a 9x13 pan at 350 for 35 minutes. While still hot top with syrup made as follows:
2 cups honey
2 cups sugar
5 1/2 cups water
Boil sugar and water for 10 minutes to make thin syrup then add honey and cool. Pour over cake slowly. Serves 24
